Ugh, once again, the missing alt text here: the palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte, viewed from the gardens, its reflection caught in a reflecting pool against a blue sky; photo taken by a person wondering why they did not own a stillsuit from Dune.
The gardener (Le Notre) wanted to make the 1.5 miles of garden seem shorter and give it a more"human scale", so everything would seem closer. At the far end, there's a statue of Hercules and the lawn here is far narrower than it is close to the house. The trees and lines force the perspective. /9
