The gardener (Le Notre) wanted to make the 1.5 miles of garden seem shorter and give it a more"human scale", so everything would seem closer. At the far end, there's a statue of Hercules and the lawn here is far narrower than it is close to the house. The trees and lines force the perspective. /9
