Dear Mr. Lindeman, Thank you for contacting me to voice your opinions about Elon Musk's role in President Trump's administration. I appreciate your thoughts and welcome the opportunity to respond. As you know, President Trump won the 2024 election handily, securing not only the popular vote but all seven swing states. He truly has the mandate of the American people, and the people sent President Trump back to Washington with a singular mission: make America great again by putting America first, always. Throughout his campaign, President Trump clearly and consistently forecasted his plans for a second administration, including personnel selections and policy decisions that he would implement during his first 100 days. Elon Musk, a friend and confidant of the President, made his presence known throughout the campaign by regularly speaking at rallies and campaigning for the President online. The President has appointed Elon Musk to helm the "Department of Government Efficiency," his new name for U.S. Digital Services, an Obama-era agency which has been repurposed to combat the egregious abuse of American taxpayer dollars by our federal government due to poor stewardship, interagency redundancies, and in many cases deliberate malfeasance. According to ABC News, Elon Musk has been given "read-only" access to the federal payment system "responsible for handling trillions of dollars in government expenditures." In early February 2025, Elon Musk began to highlight abuses of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a State Department program which funnels taxpayer funds into initiatives such as transgender operas in Colombia; opium cultivation in Afghanistan; LGBT activism in Guatemala; electric vehicle programs in Vietnam; and the advancement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Serbian workplaces.
