I'm a huge Rival Schools fan and Natsu is my absolute favorite. I love fighting games and I love volleyball and so it feels like Hideaki Itsuno and the team at Capcom made a character just for me =D
On top of that, I always felt like Natsu's last name (Ayuhara) is an homage to the classic volleyball anime Attack No. 1, where the protagonist is called Kozue Ayuhara. Both Rival Schools and Attack No. 1 have very memorable intros in their own right, and that's where the inspiration for this little animation originally came from.
