Cruising the Nile offers unique shopping opportunities. Urban areas harbor an armada of entrepreneurs who row to the ship and throw scarves, shawls, blouses in plastic bags on deck. Sometimes passengers throw money back, but most often they return the items with a strong toss overboard. In this image, the merchants accompanied the ship into the Esna Lock. After release, they await an ensuing vessel to sell their wares and traverse the Lock once more.
