We do not get to make this utopia a private members’ club. Today, this union is committed to a galaxy-wide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. And when our people are sent to Mardikian or Tandar or M’Talas, we do not ask for ‘genetic purity’.[32] It ought, therefore, to be possible for Federation Students and Teachers to attend and work at any public institution they select: to run for any office they wish to; to live in any neighbourhood they wish to free of molestation and intimidation without needing to be backed up by armed personnel.
