Wikipedia: Shmendrik (Yiddish: שמענדריק), also rendered as schmendrick or shmendrick is a Yiddish word meaning a stupid person or a little hapless jerk ("a pathetic sad sack"). Its origin is the name of a clueless mama's boy played by Sigmund Mogulesko in Abraham Goldfaden's 1877 comedy Shmendrik, oder di komishe Chaseneh (Schmendrik or The Comical Wedding).

In December 1936, Kazakhstan and the Kirghiz Republic were made a union republic of the Soviet Union. This was the 'union republic' status that presumed the nominal right to separation from the USSR which remained until December 1991. In 1923, the Soviet government adopted different Arabic alphabets for Uzbek, Kazakh and Kirghiz, thus artificially complicating their communication. From 1925, importing printed materials in the Arabic alphabet into the Muslim republics of the Soviet Union was forbidden altogether. In 1928, the modified Latin alphabet was introduced for Central Asian languages, aiming to undermine the kinship among these languages. However, in 1939-40, by which time Turkey had already adopted Latin script, new Cyrillic script was imposed to supersede the Latin script in Central Asian languages.

Words also form a part of magic, because words themselves have magical virtues. Plato says the same thing, that just as a friend can become an enemy through wicked and insulting words, good and friendly words can turn an enemy into a friend. By this it is clear that words have magical power in them.
Hence, magicians say that the names of particular things are certain rays, always present everywhere, keeping the strength of things, inasmuch as they are the essence ruling the thing signified. Therefore, knowing these celestial influences and qualities of singular things, the Creator first assigned the names of things according to their essence, as it is written in Genesis, because God brought all things He created into the presence of Adam so that he could name them; and as he called the thing, they were named....
Nearly everyone testifies that the names of particular things are greatly necessary for magical operations. For the natural power of things proceeds first from objects to the senses, then from [the senses] to the imagination, and finally from [the imagination] to the mind, where indeed it is first conceived, then pronounced through the voice and words. Therefore, the Platonists said that the voice itself, or words, or names, are formed with its parts from the power of the thing under the form of the signification.
