That ‘or else’ part is important. It gives us the stakes of the story. It’s not enough
to say they must do [this thing]. We also need the 'Why?' and the 'What happens
if they don’t?' Don’t give away the ending but bring us right up to it so we're dying
to know how it ends and what will happen if they don't succeed. This section of
your query should read like the back cover copy of a book sitting on a shelf. It
