In a GROUP game:
Most members of the group play one character, the heroes of the story. One player is the "Game Master", who has extra responsibilities - describing the world and setting out the story's plot. Most games use dice to add some randomness.
In a SOLO game:
The solo games we make (there are other types) are more like guided creative writing. You make a character, and randomly generate prompts to see what happens to them.
