I only knew it was up there because I noticed pee falling from the tree a few feet away and looked up. Our backyard is very small and one day I happened to notice and hear the calls of distressed cranes. I looked out and somehow the adult parents along with another fuzzy fledgling were on the neighbor's side while the one was panicking on our side and trying to get through a chain link fence. It took me a bit to figure something out but I opened the closest gate and as gently and calmly as possible ushered the little guy out till it reunited with the parents. All as they screamed at me and made hostile motions on the other side. But they reunited and the parents relaxed a bit while I crept away. Still one of the coolest things I've ever done Sandhill cranes are so cool. Their juveniles stay with them a long time and the parents are very protective. They're also monogamous and when they call out like this it's usually in tandem with both of the parent cranes joining in And yeah they just walk through our neighborhood like they own the place because tbh they kinda do
A hawk perched on a limb in the oak tree by our patio. That tree has oodles of birds in it and there's a lot of underbrush nearby that other birds make nests in. We've got permanent populations of various birds which makes it sorta fun to look all year round
