One of the reasons so many great artists die of overdoses early in their lives is because they're using drugs to numb a very painful existence. The reason it's painful is the reason they became artists in the first place: their incredible sensitivity. If you see tremendous beauty or tremendous pain where other people see little or nothing at all, you're confronted with big feelings all the time. These emotions can be confusing and overwhelming. When those around you don't see what you see and feel what you feel, this can lead to a sense of isolation and a general feeling of not belonging, of otherness. These charged emotions, powerful when expressed in the work, are the same dark clouds that beg to be numbed to allow sleep or to get out of bed and face the day in the morning. It's a blessing and a curse. 75
Trying very hard to break out of old disruptive habits. If I'm working on a part of something and I'm not completely happy with it, I can move on to another part instead of getting myself stuck. If I don't feel like making music, I can draw. If I don't feel like drawing, I can play a sandbox game. Anything creative is a good use of my time, even if no one will see it. "Make it exist first, make it good later" is also something I struggle with, but I'm trying.

Society has brainwashed me into thinking that productivity is the best quality one can possibly have, that mental health issues are only worth solving if they affect your productivity, and that if you aren't productive, you're good for nothing. Putting productivity on a pedestal like this is a sickeningly capitalist mindset that I plan to unlearn.
