Male mallard in water says "I'm a mallard with a plan! Nothing will distract me from my goal!" Second panel, a female mallard stands on a rock while another mallard inspects something brown floating in the water next to them. The female yells to the first mallard "Hey! We found some nasty old bread over here!" Third panel, the male mallard is sweating over a very real distraction from his goal.
It's an ad for a new bird poster I've drawn. The image is of the poster in a gold frame hung on a white wall with dappled light shining. It is an attempt to make the product look like something the customer would like to purchase.
It's an image that says "My book has been nominated for an Eisner award! If you're eligible to vote, consider choosing my silly bird comics for best humor publication". There is a picture of the cover of "Ew, It's Beautiful" with a Will Eisner nominee sticker on top.
A goose honks at another, honk honk honk. We see the inside of its head which reveals a smaller goose at a control desk with many buttons that say honk
Two american goldfinches on a telephone line. One says "I wish I didn't get so nervous talking to new birds" The other responds "Have you ever tried looking at the space between their eyes?" We zoom in on the speaking bird between their eyes so close that we can't really make out what they're saying. In the final panel, our first bird laughs "Hahaha" and says "Thanks!" overtop of the second bird saying "why are you laughing? It's not supposed to be funny"
A chipping sparrow is humming to itself while hopping around a forest floor in early spring. New plants are sprouting through fallen years from the year before. Zoom in on the bird in the second panel as it sings "I never had a seed that I didn't like / dry ones hard ones sharp ones even taste alright / if you don't eat them fast, they turn into a grass! / if you let them be, they become a tree!" It stops to munch on some morsels of sparrow food, whatever that is, at the base of a plant that towers over its head. It looks up and up. The final frame is zoomed out to see the top of the plant, which is a trillium. The sparrow cheerily says "Good morning!". And that's how you make a comic!
Two long horizontal panels. In the first we see one chickadee hopping along a branch toward another chickadee. "Hi there, hello?" it says, "yeah sorry–I actually booked this area–I'm expecting friends". To which the other chickadee says "Um, ok like the branch?". In the second panel, we are zoomed in close to the first chickadee's face who is looking hostile "The whole tree is reserved actually"
It's a list of some events I will be participating in. First we have May 2nd at Crossover Comics in Montreal. Second is May 15, 16, 17 at the Montreal Comic Arts Festival. And finally, June 6 and 7 at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. There is a red-winged blackbird I drew, for visual intrigue!
2 blue jays on the ground, one is about to eat an insect. The first jay says "I don't know how you cat eat grasshoppers" the second says "mm?". First goes "I can't eat anything with a cute face". The second jay appears confused "but... grasshoppers aren't––". We are looking down from the blue jay's perspective to see that the grasshopper has big eyes and a cute little smile. The final frame shows the blue jay gasping in surprise.
It's a tight crop on an intense crow's face that is rendered in many pen lines. Background is a vivid vermillion, as are the crow's eyes. The crow is tinted teal. It has a small speech bubble which reads "Focus"

2 Blue Jays conversing in a spruce. First Jay asks "What if we aren't the only intelligent species in the universe? What would they be like?" The second replies "Let's see... they'd need to be good at problem solving, and to have advanced communication skills, a social structure, self-awareness..." "... the ability to fly?" continues the first Jay. "That goes without saying!" exclaims the second. The first states confidently "And a strong beak, of course". To which the second responds rhetorically "How could you do anything intelligent without a strong beak?"
The title of the strip is "Confession". There are four juncos, our hero says "Ok ok I got one I got one, I kinda like cats! You Know? They're cute!" The other juncos are incensed. One says "What the hell!" Another "You can't say that". Our hero continues "'RAARR!!' haha those teeth? They're adorable! Always jumping everywhere... awww!" One is saying "What are you talking about?!" out of frame.
The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.
Two chickadees sit on a branch, one says: "Whoa! Look!" indicating a light in the sky over the horizon. The other one says: "Pretty!" The first one says "Do you think that's Venus or just a bright star?". The second one looks nervous, stumbling "Oh... uh... yeah it's probably Bemus"
A tree sparrow is speaking: "Artistic creation shouldn't be considered carelessly! Good art is made deliberately! With emotion! Physical exertion! If you aren't crying or bleeding by the end, you'd better look into another lifestyle...". We see a class of birds with piles of sticks and a big banner that reads "Intro to nest building" made out of twigs. The teacher continues: "Ok! Does everyone have their bundle of soft moss?"
A crow is standing next to a melting snowbank and says "I love when the snow starts to melt and all the treasures appear". It hops along and says "Let me show you my collection". We see an assortment of objects at its feet. "54 aromatics nubs, a fine preener, assorted flavour discs, beak lovelies, flim-flams, shiny poke-stick, and best of–wait..." We see a close of of the crow looking over its shoulder "where's my jiggly squibbler?"

A crow says "I just want to"

A crow whistles to itself on a bright winter day. It's scratching at the snow with its foot. It sees something blue and plastic sticking out of the snow and says "Hello what's this". It reaches to pick it up with its beak and yanks it out with a "shing!"

One says "Hold on tight!" the other replies "To what?" looking down at the sign it is standing on. The first crow pushed the second and it slides down a hill screaming AAAAAHHHH. Perspective from between the legs of the crow going down the hill. Snow streams by as it continues to scream AAAAAAHHHHHHHH. The first crow watches from the top of the hill as the second screams "I'll never forgive youuuuuuu". The second crow's scream continues "uuuuu–oh I've stopped. That was thrilling!" It is covered in snow, face is plastered with the stuff. In the distance at the top of the hill, the first crow is crying "my turn! my turn!"
10:30pm Lady and Caxi are asleep next to each other on the window-suction-cup-bed
6:30pm Lady asks for food by raising one paw. Sometimes from the other side of the room. Our theory is that she expects us to take sympathy with her "cold/hurt" paw. When Caxi is hungry she puts holes in our pants. "Ow!" I say
2:30pm "It's a beautiful sunny day. But quite cold." My phone shows -14 feels like -18. "I don't mind the excuse to stay in."
12:30pm Mélodie makes us lunch. It's beans and two eggs on toast. She feeds Plover in the sling. Plover goes MMMMMM
8:30am I feed Plover breakfast. She does this shimmying side to side dance when she's happy. Mostly when she's eating. Pictured is Plover doing her happy dance while eating and going MMMMMMM
Hourly Comics Day 2026 Part 1 of 2
An ad that shows two new art prints of my comics. One close up of the snowy owl, and one of the two crows flying through the snow storm from my previously posted comic.
Two crows march through a snowy field. They see a pile of snow on top of a fence post. "Heh, that lump of snow looks like..." starts one... Close up of the lump of snow that is revealed to be a living snowy owl. "Gasp" exhales one crow. "...a spirit!" exclaims the second.
Two crows are flying through a snowstorm. "I can hardly see a thing!" yells one, "We can't keep going like this!" The other one replies "Let's take a break!" They land in a snow-covered field, the snow is falling gently. "Oh!" exclaims one while looking around at the peaceful scene, "It's so beautiful when you aren't fighting against it."
A downy woodpecker sits on a spruce on a sunny winter day. "Ahh... Febuary" it says. Close up on it correcting "Febrary" then "Febberary..." then finally "Frebrury"
A bird is singing on a crabapple tree in winter. In the second panel we see the bird is an evening grosbeak who says "What a gorgeous day!". The following panel he says "Why can't every day be like this" And in the final panel looks very upset.
A crow kicks a small ball of snow. They then start rolling it into a larger ball while saying "trust the process...". They kick more snow into a pile and stick a branch in repeating "trust the process" to itself. They place small stones. They say "Phew!" and stand back to look at its creation, which we see now is a mess of a project that looks somewhat like a melted bird. The final panel the crow says "haha it's terrible".
We see two house sparrows drinking out of a puddle. The male says to the female: "Good puddle!" to which she replies "I love you but you have low standards". Pigeons arrive in the background, the female says "Ope! Here comes the herd" There is a long horizontal frame of the two sparrows in the midst of a bunch of pigeons cooing around them. The male then says "gentle giants" the female agrees "mhm" and then says "coo" and the male responds "haha. coo!"
"Do you remember what you were like when you were younger?" asks one crow to another as they are landing on wet snow. "Bitey" replies the second crow. "Right... but do you remember what it was like to BE you?" "What did you think about? Have you changed fundamentally? How can you really know?" The first crow is pondering. The background is a pattern of blue circles. "I guess I don't bite as much as I used to" answers the second crow. "You bite enough" says the first.
Bagglyn and Grell are being triumphantly thrown into the air, while the sun sets behind them.
As Grell coaxed the beast forward, it saw the grub and started to charge. Bagglyn ripped the bolt from her cap, stuck the grub on, and threw it to the blue knight. "Give this worm some wings!" she shouted. Just as the beast descended on him, the blue knight launched the baited bolt as far from the castle as he could. The horrible beast followed it and was never seen again!
"Your colleague is crazed!" the red knight shouted to Bagglyn. "This daemon is too powerful for us! Its destructive desires are insatiable!" "Insatiable... that's it!" cried Bagglyn, flying to a nearby branch of the great oak. She sung a sweet melody and soon a fat grub wiggled out from the wood. "Grell!" she yelled, "Over here! Get it over here!"
"Throw me my sword!” urged the yellow knight, emerging heroically through the smoke. She cut the bunting above, entangling the beast. Meanwhile, the red knight lobbed a fire stick directly into its horrid beak! But this only served to enrage the beast further. “This is a stable boy’s time to shine,” Grell thought to himself. He jumped on the beast’s back!
The gull is attacking the castle! Turrets are on fire. The knight group have arrived. The Queen is staring at the gull in shock from a nearby window. Her guard are using long weapons to keep the gull back.
But just as the red knight hurled his fire stick at the Dragon, a familiar bolt pierced it and deviated its course. "Cease the queste at once!" cried the blue knight. "We have new orders! The Queendom is under attack!"
The great beast (a double-crested cormorant), wings out-stretched, is a small distance from the warblers. It is purple and blue with a green eye and white crests emerging from just over its eyes. There is an orange, pink, purple, and blue explosion of colour coming out from the centre of the drawing. The warblers are behind a bush and are very small in comparison.
Our three warblers are hiding in a bush and are in monochrome blue-purple, with shadows covering most of the faces. They peer out expectantly.
We see Bagglyn and Grell following the red knight along the water's edge with greenery in the background. Bagglyn still has the arrow through her cap, and has now attached the yellow knight's sword to a rope around her belt and it is being dragged behind her. She is also now sporting the blue knight's discarded eye patch.
Bagglyn and Grell are somewhat blurry in the foreground, looking at each other. The red knight is further on sort of soapboxing on his own.
The blue knight and his steed, the dragonfly, are flying in front of a blurred green, blue, and yellow background. The gull is close behind.
The four warblers are facing against a large gull. The blue knight is shooting bolts at the gulls head to no effect. The frame surrounding the image has various health bars which makes the scene appear as if out of a video game. Or that's what I was going for, anyway.
The image is drawn duochromatically, with red and green. There is a gull taking up the majority of the frame and it is eating the snail. A red spiral is drawn emanating from the snail.
We see our four heroes standing on a rock. The red knight sees his steed, the snail a little ways off. Bagglyn is still dragging the yellow knight's sword. The blue knight sees something in the reflection of the water, which is a spooky silhouette in front of the sun.
The four warblers are walking along the water's edge on large rocks. There is a tree with yellow leaves centred in the image.
The red knight is in the foreground, speaking to a distracted group. Grell is wistfully watched the snipe wading away. The blue knight is releasing the yellow knight's steed, the great bumblebee. The blue knight's dragonfly steed is hovering overhead. And finally, Bagglyn has her cap back–with arrow still lodged through it–and is tentatively picking up the yellow knight's discarded sword.
"What a horror!" cried the yellow knight, "What a brute! What an ogre! Gaze upon its great lance! We haven't a hope to defeat this beast!" Unbuckling her sword's sheath and renouncing her knighthood, the yellow brid vanished into the wood. "I think it looks quite kindly for a Dragon" said Grell.
"So," began the red knight, "when capturing my likeness in tapestrye, ordinary red thread simply wouldn't do my plume justice–" but was interrupted by the yellow knight frantically pushing him from behind. "Shhh! Hide!" she hissed, "Dragon!"
