solutions to "my screen recording is above 10mb and i can't send it on discord", ranked 1. a discord employee asks claude to fix this and mentions mediabunny in the prompt 2. xdg portal that wraps around your actual portal, detects when discord requests a file, and right before it sends it, if its a video and above 10mb it gives you the compression dialog 3. discord client mod plugin on linux 4. right click dialog in discord's file picker (on macos this is a Service, i don't know the apis for linux) 5. constrict, the only native app that solves this problem, only on linux 6. 8mb.video (what i use) 7. a native app that don't actually solve this problem (8mb.video doesn't just adjust bitrate it also adjusts framerate and res so if you only adjust bitrate you don't get the same result) aka every macos app that claims to solve this problem 8. #2 on distros that aren't nixos 9. discord client mod plugin on macOS (client mods need to be reinstalled after every discord update on macOS) 10. python slop there's also the solution of your screen recorder having this functionality built in but i don't know where i'd place that but it has the problem of now your original is fucked there's also using a sharex uploader which i'd rank at 11 because they shut down all the time so when you come back to your dms in 4 years it will be a wasteland ask me how i know
