In keeping with the passage of the Democracy Commission Structural Reform Proposal (DemComm) at the 2025 National Convention, we will be updating our lapsing date policies. In the past, both annual and monthly dues memberships were defined as expiring/lapsing one year after the last payment. Because of the Constitutional changes related to the DemComm proposal, this expiration date definition is no longer compliant, and could cause issues with chapter elections and elsewhere. In effect, the change will mean that DSA membership terms are more similar to subscriptions or memberships for other organizations. If a member pays their dues annually, their membership will lapse one year after their last dues payment. If a member pays monthly dues, their membership will lapse one month after their last dues payment. Dues waivers will still be available. This change will take full effect on Tuesday, August 4. To prepare for this change, we will email and text members whose last monthly payments were more than a month ago, and help make sure that their memberships don’t lapse unintentionally. Monthly members whose last dues payment was more than a month ago need to restart their dues payment or file a dues waiver so that their membership does not lapse.
