“As someone who manages and coordinates a university-managed field station team with multiple remote sites and resident staff, I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is to provide sexual harassment training. One of the most practical aspects of the FieldFutures training is that it helps shape and reinforce positive workplace norms. Fieldwork should be an opportunity for discovery and collaboration, but for many, it comes with significant risks. Studies reveal that harassment and assault are alarmingly common, with marginalized groups—including women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of color—facing disproportionate harm. Even more concerning, the majority of incidents go unreported, leaving these issues unaddressed and perpetuating unsafe conditions.
