Understands that Balfour Beattie had contacted Samaritans to inquire whether there was an intention to replace the crisis signage on North Bridge which had been taken down, damaged and/or lost over the course of the renovations. Further understands that the charity guidance states that Samaritans must consult with the local Suicide Prevention Group (SPG) before installing any signage, but there has not been an SPG in Edinburgh for three years and acknowledges the risk of the North Bridge works concluding before signage is installed which may increase the risk of a fatality at the site. Calls for the re-establishing an Edinburgh SPG both to address the immediate need to make arrangements for the reinstallation of signage on North Bridge and to refocus our efforts as a city to make suicide prevention a priority.
