I am absolutely heartbroken, enraged, and disgusted at what my country has become and if you aren’t also; you either aren’t paying attention or you are part of the problem. EDITED TO ADD: Since this is getting shared around I thought I’d make abundantly clear my takeaway from this experience. It’s this: Black and brown people in this country have been subjected to this same type of violence and lawlessness for centuries; with often far worse outcomes than I experienced. The fact the oppressors in power are now willing to also inflict it against a white man of privilege in broad daylight, in the supposed bastion of progressive values that is NYC; only shows how brazen they have become and how dangerous it must be for everyone else not as privileged as I. White people MUST stand in the way of fascism at every turn. We MUST put our bodies and privilege on the line. We MUST be wrenches in the cogs of this horrible machine we helped create. We don’t have much time left. *Also videos of the incident are incoming! I got nothing of substance before losing possession of my phone, but I know some neighbors did.

Copy of my Facebook post that says: Yesterday's protest in Lansing was terrific! Kudos to the organizers for putting it all together in only two days. It was a pretty good turnout, and many of the people there were older (a lot of them protested or served in Vietnam). The guest speakers were all fantastic, and their messages hit home. My friend and I got to talk to a bunch of really great people who are working hard for all of us, especially those in marginalized communities. Some of us went inside to address the legislators before they voted on paid FML for Michiganders. One of the best things was the guy who brought his trombone. He whomp-whomped the bad stuff and twiddled the good stuff, during the speeches. Someone with a tuba came along later and joined him. 😂♥️ Many of us were angry, but at no time was there any threat of violence or intimidation. One of the people did get scared and call for security when we were yelling DO YOUR JOB, which was ridiculous; at no time did anyone try to move forward, and everyone was very respectful. But it did spawn a ton of jokes about how the only thing scaring these people is Americans' insistence that legislators do their fucking jobs. 😂🙄

His staff encountered resistance when demanding that Treasury officials grant access to systems managing the flow of more than $6 trillion annually to programs like Social Security and Medicare. Tensions escalated when Musk’s aides were discovered at OPM accessing systems, including a vast database known as the Enterprise Human Resources Integration (EHRI), which contains sensitive information such as dates of birth, Social Security numbers, performance appraisals, home addresses, pay grades, and length of service for government employees. In response to employees speaking out, Musk’s aides locked civil servants out of computer systems and offices, with reports of personal items being searched.
