X A disagreement over a glass float on the Oregon coast led to an arrest Wednesday morning, April 22, in Lincoln City, according to authorities. Police responded around 9:30 a.m. to a disturbance near Siletz Bay Lodge. A man, Wheeler King, 46, told officers a woman struck him multiple times in the back with a piece of driftwood and tore his rain jacket. The woman, identified as 64-year-old Michelle Dorcas Evans of Corvallis, said both of them had spotted the glass float while walking on the beach and claimed King pushed her as he rushed toward it. She told police she did not recall hitting him but was holding driftwood during the interview. A witness reported seeing both individuals running toward the hotel and observed the woman hitting the man. Evans was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Thursday, was released from jail, and ordered to have no contact with King.
