Fluoride is a drug with side effects. It's not a nutrient or essential for healthy teeth. Dentists, in the early 1900's, noticed people who consumed calcium fluoridated water had decay-free but discolored teeth (now called fluorosis). They knew fluoride was the tooth discoloring agent and assumed it was the cavity hero too. But they didn't know then that calcium was and is a tooth essential nutrient. So now our kids are fluoride overdosed with sodium fluoride and silicofluorides but tooth decay is epidemic. And, ironically, calcium is the antidote for fluoride poisoning.
