Put half a cup of granulated sugar on a plate, add 5 drops of food coloring, and stir it up to incorporate the color. Once it's all blended in, push the sugar through a fine mesh sieve onto another plate. Leave it to dry for 2 hours (or put it into a convection oven at 170 for 20 minutes) and use.
