For this weekend’s Saturday (25th) cleaning we will gather at the BART station parking lot (Redwood Rd. & 580W entry) from 9am to 11am. Goal will be to tackle the freeway entrance and then move onto the BART parking lot and surrounding neighborhoods if time allows. A message from the amazing Pat Alger, Fruit Rescue Lead for Brentwood: Dear Volunteers, Thank you for taking time out of your morning to join us in Brentwood to help pick peaches for families in need. Your enthusiasm and hard work made an incredible difference! Together, we harvested 7,869 pounds of peaches in less than two hours—an amazing accomplishment that simply wouldn't have been possible without each of you. Thanks to your efforts, this fresh, delicious fruit was distributed to nine different food pantries throughout Contra Costa County, where it will help provide healthy food to individuals and families who need it most. Every peach you picked represents kindness, generosity, and a community coming together to help neighbors. We hope you enjoyed the morning as much as we enjoyed working alongside you. This is our only opportunity to save this harvest. Once the peaches are picked, the orchard owner will close the orchard and remove the trees. Harvest Details Date: Saturday, July 18 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The fruit we harvest will be donated to local food pantries that provide fresh, healthy food to thousands of people each month. Your help will ensure this delicious fruit reaches families who can enjoy it instead of going to waste. #ForestrCleans : This weekend, Saturday (27th), 9am to 11am, we will be meeting at the Caltrans Park&Ride parking lot. We will be cleaning around the lot, the Center Street overpass, Grove way, and the Caltrans lands surrounding the area. VOLUNTEER ONLY EVENT This is a Litter Patrol event. All ages are welcome. Younger volunteers will remain within the safety of the lot and highlands. Elder friends will work the freeway spaces. Contra Costa Fruit Rescue (CCFR) crossed 301,937 pounds of gleaned fruits. Official total as of today! 59,764 pounds for the year alone!! All of it returned to their communities throughout the county. Shelters, food banks, neighbors, places or worship, and more ... Still Growing Jeff (a Forestr master) found this sapling along the freeway on one of our litter cleaning days and we decided to dig it up and replant it in Castro Valley. The little angle now has a forever-home at the Castro Valley Library. Let me know if you would like a more recent progress photo and I will post it 🙂 Saplings, like this and Oaks too, pop up along our freeways all the time. But, they are often mowed down during maintenance of the spaces. So, when we can, we rescue them and move them inland.

Monarch park welcomes Ms. and Mr. C! https://www.forestr.org/monarch/ We have the very great pleasure to share the great news that Ms.C (our resident crow sister) has found a love and set up house in preparation for possibly even more good news to come soon. Neighbors might remember that a short time ago, this land was solid, clay filled, dead soil. Forestrs composted it, mulched it, watered and nurtured it ... bring the land back to life and filling it with insects, worms, and even new Monarch butterfly families (3 so far and counting). That rejuvenated land soon drew the interest of our dear Ms.C. She has been a regular there now for a couple of months. Helping clean litter from the space and watching over the growing flowers, milkweeds, redwoods, and fruit forrest saplings. It seems she approves ... gracing us by calling in her love and building a new home there. We will endeavor to honor her in return. Keep the growing spaces watered, clean, and welcoming for what we hope will be her little ones to come soon <3 #earthdayeveryday

38 volunteers came out this weekend to collect a total of 21 bags of litter (and sundry items) from along the side of your 580W freeway. We want to thank each and every cleaning member and a special thanks to the Castro Valley High School’s Outdoors Club for participating in this morning of cleaning. So many friends, Forestrs, neighbors, and students joined us that we had extra time to carry out some fire abatement work. Clearing away dry/dead shrubbery that might become fire hazards. Collecting cuttings in cuttings piles we can use for water swales in the future. With a little extra time to protect a lovely native tree as it reaches for the sky. #earthdayeveryday

The new parks added to the #ForestrHunt ! This time in the lovely San Francisco. We welcome a spot near the Legion of honor along with Stowe Lake and Lloyd Lake in the venerated Golden Gate park. There will be no cleaning this weekend. However, I would like to invite you to hold the morning of February 7th open. That Saturday morning will be the first morning with us cleaning at an all new location, the Eden Canyon Road 580 entry/exit: https://maps.app.goo.gl/E4bgwzSUKsPqGfxL6 This is our first cleaning in the Eden area. If you have friends or family in the Eden and Palomares road areas, invite them to join us. Forestrs came together, this weekend, to collect 22 bags of litter from the areas around the Redwood Rd/580W exit/entrance to the freeway. With a little work on the Bart lot to boot.
