Abstract We introduce esogo, a spatial rewrite language in which computation is defined over Go board topology rather than variables and arithmetic. Programs operate on groups, regions, liberties, and enclosure, treating spatial structure as the primary computational substrate. The proof-track subset, esogo/cm2, encodes a 2-counter Min- sky machine using unary zone counters, establishing Tur- ing completeness under unbounded memory. Building on this foundation, esogo provides structural predicates and a deterministic rewrite system with strategies, pipelines, and fixpoint-based normalization profiles. We demon- strate that spatial topology can serve as a practical and expressive basis for computation in domains involving structured grid-like data, particularly deterministic post- processing pipelines. 1 Introduction Most programming languages are grounded in symbolic state and sequential execution. Even declarative paradigms operate over symbolic expressions rather than spatial structure. Yet many real-world problems depend funda- mentally on adjacency, connectivity, and enclosure. We present esogo, a programming system in which computation emerges from spatial topology. Programs operate on a discrete grid inspired by the game of Go, where connected components, empty regions, and their relationships are first-class. Computation proceeds through deterministic structural rewrites. Figure 1 provides the central intuition for the system. A structured board state is queried using a spatial pat- tern with local bindings, matched against the board, and deterministically rewritten into a normalized result. This local workflow scales naturally to multi-rule strategies, pipelines, and fixpoint-driven normalization profiles.
