When the church uses propaganda, it always tries to justify itself in two ways: It says, first of all, that it puts these efficient media in the service of Jesus Christ. But if one reflects for a moment, one realizes that this means nothing. What is in the service of Jesus Christ receives its character and effectiveness from Jesus Christ. The media that possess in themselves all their effectiveness and contain in themselves their own presuppositions and ends, cannot be put in the service of Jesus Christ. They obey their own rules, and this cannot be changed in the slightest, either by the content of their transmissions or by theological reasoning, despite what simplistic reasoning can make some people believe. In fact, a statement by the church that it is placing the media at the service of Christ, is not a logical or ethical explanation, but a pious formula without content.
The first AI startups to move will be deep industrial ones like legal software companies Harvey and Legora, who charge anywhere from $399 to $1,200 a month while still losing money because the very nature of legal work is extremely document and text-heavy. Harvey has raised $960 million since February 2025, meaning that its services — which are already sold into a relatively cost-sensitive industry — already burn way too much capital to make sense. These changes will be subtle. As I said above, it’ll be sold as “you pay $200 and get $220 worth of credits!” taking a small hit and Harvey likely working with Anthropic and OpenAI to buy discounted tokens at scale so that it doesn’t lose shit-tons of money. The problem will be that even enterprise customers used to spending inordinate sums on software will notice if their costs increase from, say, $400 a month to $1000 a month per user. While a braindead Fortune 100 executive might be willing to burn 10% of headcount on LLM tokens, a named partner at a law firm will notice when AI starts costing the equivalent of a few hours of an associate’s pay a month. Or a day. Honestly, if an associate is absolutely banging the shit out of Harvey’s services, they’re potentially burning $50 or $100 a day, and if anybody gets up to the $300 or $400 range, that will begin to legitimately eat into billable hours in a way that even the most braindead, disconnected partner will flinch at.

Sam Altman i remember seeing you in a tv interview a long time ago (maybe 60 minutes?) where you being attacked by some guys, and you said they were heroes of yours and it was really tough. well, you’re my hero and that’s what it feels like when you attack openai. totally get we have some screwed some stuff up, but we have worked incredibly hard to do the right thing, and i think we have ensured that neither google nor anyone else is on a path to have unilateral control over AGI, which i believe we both think is critical. i am tremendously thankful for everything you’ve done to help—i dont think openai would have happened without you—and it really fucking hurts when you publicly attack openai. Elon Musk I hear you and it is certainly not my intention to be hurtful, for which I apologize, but the fate of civilization is at stake. Sam Altman i agree with that, and i would really love to hear the things you think we should be doing differently/better. it’s also not clear to me how the attacks on twitter help the fate of civilization, but that’s less important to me that getting to the right substance. also, i checked with our team on recruiting from tesla. we really are doing very little relative to the size of the company, but i will make sure we don’t hurt tesla, i obviously think it’s a super important company.
Intriguingly, the researchers suggest that their findings could make it worthwhile to involve religious organizations in anti-piracy campaigns. “Religious organizations can play a key role in educating communities about the ethical issues of piracy by using sacred teachings to promote honesty and respect for others’ work. They can address piracy in sermons, host educational workshops, and incorporate digital ethics into youth programs,” they write. Whether any anti-piracy groups are eager to pick this up is unknown.
