https://forrt.org In a nutshell, FORRT is a Framework for Open and Reproducible Research Training advancing research transparency, reproducibility, rigor, and ethics through pedagogical reform and meta-scientific research.

A guide to using the Academic Wheel of Privilege reflexively outlined in six key steps: Examine, prepare, evaluate, record, reflect and learn.

Integrating the Academic Wheel of Privilege (AWoP) in authorship order decisions into the CRediT framework (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) is more equitable than contributorship focused methods like alphabetisation (b) or randomisation (c). The AWoP considers both contributions of authors and redresses imbalances of academic privilege (d). e) shows what a solely equity-focused authorship order would look like, where authors are positioned with increasing privilege along the author list based on AWoP scores shown in (a).

Project Updates Do you have 15 Minutes to spare? Contribute to our project and be acknowledged as a contributor in an E-Book! FORRT is working on a transdisciplinary project, aiming to gather insights from diverse disciplines and regions to map and critically evaluate feedback strategies across the research cycle. We hope that this will be particularly beneficial for marginalised and early-career researchers. One of the key outputs will be an e-book, and we need your help to ensure our survey translations are clear and accurate. To make the survey as accessible as possible, we’ve enabled various translations. If you're fluent in a language other than English, we’re asking for approximately 15 minutes of your time to review the automated translation of the survey generated through Qualtrics and highlight any issues or unclear areas. Project Spotlight: Replication Hub The Project To make replication research more visible and more rewarding, we have been creating resources to help: (1) searching for replications (2) conducting replication research, and (3) publishing replications We curate the world’s largest database for replication studies, including multiple interfaces and tools, guidelines and templates to facilitate replication research, and a WIP publication platform. Systemic underrepresentation of marginalised groups in academia persists, with existing feedback mechanisms often reinforcing disparities. Our Leverhulme Trust-funded project, in partnership with FORRT, aims to map inclusive feedback opportunities at all stages of research and create an e-book to support researchers. Newsletter Highlights Vacancy for a Scientific Coordinator & Community Engagement manager! The LMU Open Science Center in Munich has a vacancy for a Scientific Coordinator & Community Engagement manager (E13 TV-L; 01/2025 to 12/2027, i.e. 3 years). The task is to implement the Volkswagen Foundation pioneer project “From local to systemic implementation: Embedding open research in institutional practices” which includes an explicit collaboration with FORRT to develop a train-the-trainer program. At LMU, you will also work with Felix Schönbrodt and Malika Ihle, and will work closely with Team FORRT Curriculum to develop training materials based on an updated version of FORRT Clusters. Further details on the role can be found here. The application deadline is July 15.

Project Updates New preprint from FORRT & Ceres Jacobs collaboration! The paper focuses on what Open Science can mean for educational technology research, including challenges, opportunities, and call for further research. Well done to Madeleine Pownall, Sakshi Ghai, Luisa Fassi, and all other authors! FORRT now has page where all FORRT contributors are formally recognized for their work. Check this out here, and see if all your contributions are properly credited. FORRT is now pursuing legal status in Germany (in addition to the UK via Open Collective). Newsletter Highlights Two groups of FORRT members were recently awarded funding by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) Open Science Fund for two new projects: 1) Promoting Open Science Teaching: A Positive, Inclusive and Participatory Program for Educators (POST-Edu). Team: Leticia Micheli, Madeleine Pownall, Helena Hartmann, Thomas Rhys Evans, & Karen Matvienko-Sikar. 2) JUST-OS for all: An AI-based chatbot for navigating Open Science resources. Team: Rink Hoekstra, Nina Schwarzbach, Vera Heiniga, Flavio Azevedo, Michiel van der Ree. FORRT was also one of the eight recipients of funding from the Open Infrastructure Fund. The project "Improving accessibility and usability of FORRT’s Open Educational Resources" aims to improve the usability and accessibility of the FORRT website and open educational resources to make it easier for people to utilize and benefit from the rich trove of community-developed resources. Well done everyone!
Section: Newsletter Highlights Title: Replications and Reversals. Finalist for the Early Career Einstein Foundation Award. The FORRT project 'Replications and Reversals' was selected as a finalist for the Early Career Einstein Foundation Award for promoting quality in research. The Reversals team has been recognised for their contribution to improving research by tracking and mainstreaming replications across the Social, Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences. On the 9th November, all finalists took part in an online event hosted by the Einstein Foundation, where each finalist described their project to the voting jury. While ultimately FORRT did not win the award, being selected as a finalist was a huge honour! The event was also a fantastic place to highlight the project and all its achievements to date. Event highlights On 24th October, several FORRT members spoke at a symposium at the Big-Team Science Conference. The symposium highlighted the FORRT projects: Reversals, Landscapes, and Summaries. In addition, a discussion on the review paper on how replication crisis has led to positive structural, procedural, and community changes. Great work everyone! On 3rd October, FORRT was invited by the European Health Psychology Society Open Science Special Interest Group, together with PaPOR Trial and Agape Open Science, to present the webinar: "Open Educational Resources about Open Science: What are they, and how can they help me?"
Newsletter highlights FORRT members Madeleine Pownall, Luisa Fassi, and Sakshi Ghai were recently at the University of California to facilitate workshops on open research and record training videos for CERES. FORRT were invited by Dr Amy Orben to continue the work we started last year on developing open science skills in the cohort of CERES scholars, who are early-career researchers in Educational Technology Research. FORRT also facilitated a workshop on open science terminology in EdTech, inspired directly by the FORRT glossary! Question: What or whom motivated you to join the open science community in the first place? Answer from Helena Hartmann, Team lead for ‘Replications and Reversals': Getting up every day and knowing I can make science a tiny bit better by contributing to it with my own work. Answer from Kelly Lloyd, Team lead for Outreach: Reading Chris Chambers' book 'The Seven Deadly Sins of Psychology' is what originally motivated me to understand and apply open research practices to my work. Answer from Andrea Kis, Co-team lead for Neurodiversity: I have been raised with a belief in the value of open, free, and widely accessible knowledge. My career experiences - both outside of research as well as my academic journey - strengthened this belief. Answer from Meng Liu, Team lead for Landscape: I first came to learn about OS via Twitter and Dorothy [Bishop] is one of the most active leaders of OS on it so naturally I followed her and learned a lot from her.
