The end of the blog post "An app can be a home-cooked meal" by Robin Sloan, discussing his "home-cooked messaging app" for his family, BoopSnoop. This messaging app I built for, and with, my family, it won’t change unless we want it to change. There will be no sudden redesign, no flood of ads, no pivot to chase a userbase inscrutable to us. It might go away at some point, but that will be our decision. What is this feeling? Independence? Security? Sovereignty? Is it simply … the feeling of being home? Update, February 2022: Two years later, my family still uses BoopSnoop every day. I have added one (1) feature, at my mother’s request. Update, February 2023: Yep, still using it every day! Update, February 2024: Still booping. Still snooping. TestFlight build 26. Update, February 2025: I have changed literally nothing in the app, and it’s glorious. TestFlight build 30!

The pretty young woman who heads Feminine Action and represents her group on the Governor's civilian defense council said the Streetcar Conduetors Union already had agreed to teach a class of women to drive streetcars, and the only thing holding up the plan was the governor's approval. Feminine Action likewise wants its women to receive military and flying training and radio and telegraph instruction, so that they can step into those jobs as part of their "bit" toward the war effort. Governor Rojo Gomez has promised to give Mrs. Ramirez's suggestions an early answer.

A watermelon I wrote some HTML on before slicing up and sharing, laid on a beach blanket in the park. I don’t want to recount all the HTML, but the gist is it was a page that represented the watermelon somehow. Meta tags describing the weight, grocery aisle, and cultivar. A title of “Gallagher”. A body with a conic gradient background of light and dark green. Page content that read “I’m a watermelon. I took a long to grow. I travelled a long way to meet you. I’m not the most nutritious (insert a list of nutrition facts who cares), but I am the most delicious.”

A ghost bike honoring Julian Miller in Clinton Hill, who was struck by a motorcycle in 2009. The bike is permanently tied to a street sign, has all of its moving parts and seat removed, and is painted completely white. A sign commemorating Miller was attached to the sign post by ghostbikes.org volunteers, reading "Cyclist killed here. Julian Miller. 45 years old. September 18, 2009. Rest in peace." Some artificial flowers are arranged on the handlebars and fork.

Behind the police tape the driver’s vehicle is visible with a very crumpled front end, and beyond a police van that was struck while parks has a crumbled rear end and has slammed into the storefront on the sidewalk. Try to think of any other activity where one person can cause this much carnage accidentally.
