we are still at a hotel. the evac warning zones haven’t changed near us. we were planning to go home tmrw but waiting to see what these winds bring before we officially decide what’s next. today has been very hard. getting to the point where, if you’re not here, you’ve started to move on. we have not moved on because we can’t. the fires are still going. the wind is picking up again. none of us know what comes next. please understand that not all of us can be “business as usual”. the number of insensitive emails/messages i’ve received today has been…shocking. to say the least. I don’t know why they all came today, but they did. that’s Tuesdays for you. an ask: please stop spreading rumors right now. it doesn’t help us. the fires are still raging—no one can investigate anything til they’re out. the reasons why these fires blazed beyond control are easily explained by science. the water issues are easily explained by science. not everything has to be a conspiracy. Occam’s razor y’all. i was saying to a friend last night—i’ve watched these disasters (and responses from outsiders) happen to my home in KY over the last several years and it’s heartbreaking secondhand, every time. now speaking from a firsthand perspective—it’s indescribably difficult. and my home hasn’t even burned down (yet). we have our health (for now). the constant uncertainty, the fear…i hope no one ever has to feel this way ever/ever again. but i fear that’s a pipe dream. to end, the community response here has been beyond-your-wildest-dreams incredible. as a newbie to the city, i’m glad to know i can trust my neighbors and i hope i’m proving to them that they can trust me. im so glad to have found an outlet helping to be sure people get the donations, and drivers, and volunteers they need to try and ensure that everyone in LA can go to bed tonight with a mask, a full stomach, and a place to lay their head—we might miss the mark but all we can do is our best. back to the spreadsheet. cheers.
I'm on the lookout myself but if anyone sees an organization that needs any administrative help, i have been an executive assistant for 12+ years for literally over 40 different types of companies in NYC and LA in that time. I know communications can be so cumbersome when trying to do boots on the ground work.... my superpowers are maintaining detailed spreadsheets, sending clear concise communication, handling multiple requests at once, and more. so basically TL;DR HAVE COMPUTER, WILL WORK (for free obviously) to help with this so leaders can focus. if you see a company looking for help this way, ping them to me and I'll reach out to them myself!
