Fridays for Future Toronto expresses solidarity with Manitobans as a devastating wildfire spreads through their province. While we are not in a position to speculate on the original cause of this specific fire, it is clear that decades of deliberate inaction and human-caused climate change have led to adverse weather effects occurring at unprecedented rates. Politicians may forget, but the planet doesn’t.
The judge saw through Ontario’s frivolous arguments for ripping out our bike lanes, noting in their decision the evidence that “their removal will have little to no impact on the professed objectives of the legislation” (improving congestion). They also confirmed what we already knew: “harm in the form of increased collisions, injury and even deaths of cyclists may follow from the removal of the protected bike lanes.”

On Monday the Ford government passed legislation to remove bike lanes on Bloor, Younge, and University. Internal documents show it will make traffic worse, and make roads more dangerous. This bill also eliminates indigenous consultation and environmental assessments from the highway 413 development. Doug Ford will go to any lengths necessary to secure money and power including disrespecting the people of this land, and the land itself.
