A rectangular magnet, inside a clear case is cream colored Aida cloth cross stitched with the phrase "Thoughts and Prayers, Policies and Change", with a red line crossing out the words "Thoughts" and "Prayers". The size is about 2x3" and fits in the palm of my hand. Pattern was free, from Sew Marie Studio.
It amazes me how many nations have united behind our purpose. There are still dissenters, of course—and some kingdoms, regrettably, have fallen to wars that I could not stop. Still, this general unity is glorious, even humbling, to contemplate. I wish that the nations of mankind hadn’t required such a dire threat to make them see the value of peace and cooperation.

Text from archived newspaper "The Argus", Albany NY, December 9, 1885. "The City's Health". Action Taken Yesterday by the Board- Report on Small Pox. The board of health met yesterday morning. Present, the mayor, Dr. Ward, Superintendent McKenna, Surveyor Bingham and Health Officer Balch. The health officer made a report in regard to the small-pox in this city. There have been ten cases, of which one child died, and one man is now sick in the small-pox hospital. The number of vaccinations by the regular corps and the district physicians were 5,628, at a cost of $1,102.86. Seventy-five percent of the vaccinations "took." On motion of Dr. Ward, ten dollars was allowed each small-pox patient for the destruction of bedding. The compensation of the nurse at the small-pox hospital was fixed at thirty dollars per month, for November and December. Dr. Balch also made a report of a very pronounced nuisance, near McCarty avenue and South Pearl Street. A family was found living in the same building, with about fifty pigs and in surroundings of the most filthy condition. The board will visit the place in a body and condemn it.
