The Georgia Client Assistance Program helps people with disabilities who're seeking or receiving vocational rehabilitation services by providing information about the federal Rehabilitation Act.

Under federal vocational rehabilitation law, clients have the right to informed choice when selecting employment outcomes, services, & providers. While agencies may apply reasonable cost and procurement policies, GVRA cannot deny support for a program solely because an institution is not yet in the vendor system — without first: ✔️ Attempting vendorization, or ✔️ Considering whether the program uniquely meets the client’s disability-related needs and employment goals Informed choice is a key protection designed to help individuals access services that best support their path to meaningful employment and independence. Under 34 C.F.R. § 361.38(c), if requested in writing by an applicant or recipient of services, the State unit must make all requested information in that individual's record of services accessible to and must release the information to the individual or the individual's representative in a timely manner. Exceptions are outlined in § 361.38(c)(2) and (3), but the general rule is clear: individuals have the right to access information in their own VR records. Graphic of a stop sign. Hearing aids may be provided when: ✔️ Recommended by a licensed audiologist or approved speech & hearing center ✔️ Needed to support competitive, integrated employment for individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or DeafBlind ✔️ Required to correct hearing in order to determine eligibility for services ✔️ Vocationally necessary for an individual being served for a disability other than a hearing disorder, when hearing impacts work outcomes Picture of a Latinx man with a beard inserting a behind-the-ear hearing aid into his right ear. GVRA may authorize Personal Assistance Services (PAS) for individuals with significant physical disabilities when these supports are needed to help them participate in vocational rehabilitation activities and work toward their employment goals. PAS can be provided when: ✔️ Support is needed only while participating in a primary VR service ✔️ The individual is away from their usual source of assistance ✔️ Only the additional costs related to VR participation are covered ✔️ Comparable benefits have been explored first PAS is designed to help individuals access training, education, and services that move them closer to integrated, competitive employment.
