Conversion practices aren't one discrete act. Instead, they're a series or ongoing pattern of multiple abusive behaviours that don't always look like 'therapy'. This can include being prayed over, being shamed in front of others, being beaten, being made to ingest something, being locked up, being denied food and/or water, or being assaulted.

Threatening to ‘out’ your romantic or sexual orientation, gender identity, gender history, or HIV status without your consent. Pressuring you to keep your identity or relationship secret. Isolating you from family, friends, and the LGBT+ community. Denying that LGBT+ people can experience domestic abuse in intimate relationships. Using your hormones or gender-affirming medication as a method of control. Manipulating you into believing that no help is available because you're LGBT+, or that, for this reason, you deserve the abuse. These are just a few examples, and not a full list.
