A quick game design thread... In Word Play, how come points don't carry over between rounds? If you overshoot the score requirement, why don't the extra points apply to the next round?

I found this very agreeable when playing the demo. Have to say, though - even if it doesn't mean anything mechanically, it would still be neat to see how much you overshot the goal by when finishing a round. So eg. if you have 48/50 and score 16, it'd be nice to see 64/50 rather than just 50/50.

It's a great choice! I was just playing strong words, not really *aware* that my board persists between rounds until I reached an "any word will do" play, and my thoughts shifted from "what's the best word THIS play" to "what can I set up for NEXT play?" which is a whole different puzzle.

That's how it worked in early versions of the game, but it actually felt really bad! And for a surprising reason. Here's why: this can be a very intense game. You have to think really hard about how to maximise your score. Consider every word, every tile, every modifier. And so...
