I was trying to find this on Steam so that I could shame the developer for not knowing what they were developing for, but the comment itself seems to have vanished 🤣
I'm with you on the messaging, but if they do support SteamOS, you should probably figure out what your setup is missing by yourself
they 'support' steamos but they're only distributing windows binaries... having it run under proton is their idea of support?
shh don't tell them or they might start making sure it only works on steamos on steamdeck and not linux on pc

Spot on. Arch is a power house, and it's awesome seeing Valve bring that flexibility to handheld gaming.
What is your opinion of the way the Steam Deck version of SteamOS is locked down with its separate user partition? I tried doing some development work on my steam deck and struggled to set some stuff up due to some of the oddities they've done
Don't you think they're just saying they won't provide support for Linux outside of the very specific configurations of the Steam Deck/Machines/etc?

When a developer says ”Linux is not supported“ what they mean is “I am not actively developing the game with Linux in mind. If it runs, great. If not, don’t come to me about it. I did not intend for it to run on Linux.” I have seen this sort of thing many times.
This is why I exclusively call SteamOS "SteamOS Linux" just to subtly inform anyone who may be unaware.

It's no so hard to say something like: "Unfortunately, we can only provide support for Windows 10/11 and SteamOS configurations."
The name seems to imply this person is a community manager, which probably wasn't informed that SteamOS is a flavor of Linux. Or they thought someone was trying to run it on a Linux distro that was not SteamOS based. There's multiple ways to interpret the question.
