When Takeshi Yamazaki began working on AA6 (Gyakuten Saiban 6), he decided to focus primarily on Apollo Justice (Odoroki in the 3rd image) and Phoenix Wright (Naruhodō in the 3rd image), having to revoke Athena Cykes' status of protagonists. And, to be explicitly clear for the other games in the series, Mia Fey (and [redacted]) are not considered protagonists in Trials and Tribulations, nor are (AAi2 and GAA2 Spoilers) [redacted]. With the only exception of Phoenix Wright, no character in the series has been given the status of protagonist, and then have said status revoked. And, as we see with Phoenix Wright, his status of Protagonist was restored with Dual Destinies.
I think it's moreso that the salmonids inherently just have a different way of life than other sea creatures. Like, we kind of can't judge them as innocent or guilty, since their society and morals are so different from us. This is also why I kind of hate the fandom attributing human morality to the salmonids, because they just don't follow the same principles that we do, and maybe those principles are just inherently incompatible with the other sea creature's culture. I think thats way more interesting than just 'oh the salmonids are actually the victims' which a lot of people seem to want. Not saying that they aren't also somehow the victims, but I think the relationship between sea life and salmonids is a lot more nuanced and complicated than 'bad guys are the inklings who hurt innocent salmon for profit. The tvtropes page for blue/orange morality is a good example of what i'm speaking of. The salmonid aren't evil, but they aren't innocent either. As i'm writing this I realize this is slowly becoming less and less an actual counterpoint to your point, and just my personal take on salmonids. So i'll add this: I think that the main species and spirhalite species have the same culture. I feel like it would make no sense story wise and would just overcomplicate things for there to be 2 different salmonid cultures. The stuff in raiders, in my opinion, is supposed to give us more context for salmonid culture, not invent an entirety new culture for these salmonids specifically. Otherwise, I think it would be kind of a weird disjointed addition.

What I said in the tweet was a joke. I am still sad.
This place ALSO looks lived in. Not "cosy", certainly, but it feels completely grounded in reality, while also allowing me to feel that, if I were to walk around that hallway, the 2D illusion wouldn't be broken. Sure, the balloons are obviously 2D, but everything else, from the banners to the trophies to the paper cut-outs, all of it feels "lived-in", in the same way that GAAC felt. As for SOJ… Tehm'pul Temple ... If this doesn't give a sense of "grandness", then I don't know what would. The elements look a lot more 2D here, but that's because, in motion, these 2D elements move, and makes the place feel even more alive. Sure, GAAC had its moving background elements, with the steam from the Tea Pot, but nothing on Spirit of Justice's level. I feel that Dual Destinies has better base backgrounds, but I'm certain that the approach that Spirit of Justice is using, with moving 2D elements in the background, is one that would allow for greater highs. I much prefer the backgrounds in DD/SOJ over the backgrounds in GAAC. Animation:
AJT: Sasha Buckler Dual Destinies completely leans into the expressive anime-like style (Japanese media taking inspiration from Japanese media? wowsers!). There is more inherent goofyness and whimsy to be found in Sasha Buckler's design than any other GAAC design (excluding maybe Iris' design). The absurdity of the spiky hair, large pirate hat, whistle, and floaters (the things around her elbows, not entirely certain what they're called) all mess together for something that you'd see in any Ace Attorney game. After all, their absurdity is what they're known for.
I'll break this post into 4 sections: Models, Character Design, Background, and Animation. MODELS This one is the hardest to compare, as model quality is VERY often confused for character design quality. GAAC: (Ryunosuke, the 3D Original Protagonist of GAAC) The facial structure of Ryunosuke looks rigid. One look at his ear, armband, or collar, and you could easily tell that this is a character made with the express purpose of being in a 3DS game, as opposed to a console. Still, the details of the clothes themselves aren't nearly as rigid, with the hair, button textures, and coloring all working very well. AJT:
