For those who don’t remember Griffin transformed the BNP from a fringe group of cosplay Nazis into a real political force – winning 2 Euro MPs, dozens of Councillors and a seat on the London Assembly. At its worst Barking Council had 12 BNP Elected Members, Burnley had 7. Key to this transformation was the use of a Belfast based call centre. Griffin controlled the BNP membership list which, although years out of date, contained the contact details of lots of people with extreme views, including the weird bloke who lives round the corner from me. This was the call centre’s customer list. Griffin would make crass and racist statements, and then when threatened with legal action, the call centre would contact the supporters on the list and ask for donations to fight the court case. Once the cash was in Griffin would quietly apologise and the action would be dropped. It was this flow of cash into the party that helped fund their transformation. The decline of the BNP was driven by some tough campaigning by Labour MPs such as Margaret Hodge, but also by the leak of the BNP membership list. Control of the list was essential to Griffin’s control over the party, and it’s flow of funds. Once it was freely available the party split into warring factions. It was first hidebound by timidity and confusion under the Sue Gray regime. Then, just as it made a new start, Trump was elected and began to threaten the UK with dire economic consequences, at the same time as threatening to pull out of NATO and nuclear deterrence. With Trump in the White House Britain has lost all leverage with the Israeli government over Gaza. Meanwhile, the need for rearmament means it has had to rob the aid budget. But if you are going to join a party with no actual policies, led by people who want to abolish NATO, let Putin annex Ukraine and jail Keir Starmer for genocide, you should think very carefully about the consequences. The strategic consequence will be to split the progressive vote, at the precise moment it will need to unite to stave off the one problem nobody in the Corbyn/Sultana movement wants to engage with: the mass radicalisation of people towards racism and fascism. There is a self-deluding argument coming out of the far left, that says Starmer has somehow fuelled Reform’s rise, by acknowledging the challenges of immigration. Unfortunately, Reform doesn’t need any help: it is riding a real and virulent radicalisation, that’s being driven on social media and by ludicrously lax regulation of broadcasting.

Now, we don’t have to have ambition.” Franklin openly admitted that because I was white, he assumed I voted for Trump. I didn’t tell him who I voted for or confront him about his views on Trump or social welfare, because I didn’t feel I could do so without it becoming a conflict; however, I did ask him what would happen to him without the assistance. “I would either have to adapt or die,” he admitted, before morbidly saying he believes he would probably die.

Trump is purposely trying to destroy the country. His supporters, who feel they have had so much taken from them and have nothing left to lose, are joining him in this murder-suicide pact. They don’t see any reason to save America in its current form, even if destroying it hurts them. This is a problem that first started festering decades ago. After watching people whom I’ve been told are supporting Trump due to “economic anxiety” support policies nearly every economist agrees with devastate their lives economically, my mind went to an article I read after Barack Obama’s 2008 election. The reporter interviewed McCain supporters in a Rust Belt town, and the final quote from one of the interviewees stuck with me. “The country is ruined,” he said about Obama’s election. “It will never be what it was.” The sentiment seemed strange to me at the time. How is the mere election of Obama something that ruins the country? We’ve had Democratic presidents before, even ones more liberal than Obama. At the time, I knew many who weren’t fans of Obama, so I asked and couldn’t get a straight answer, except from a handful of people who would say, “He’s not for us,” or “He’s for his people, not us.” One former neighbor of mine said she felt “irate” that her grandchildren would one day have rulers like the ones given to schoolchildren, with the faces of all the presidents on them, including Obama. “We’re going to have to look at his face alongside all the others,” she said, echoing that Rust Belt McCain voter. “It’s ruined.”

It is "cruel" to not redistribute your wealth to third worlders and fund their artificial existence created by artificial conditions. Anecdotally, I noticed that some of the most important recent news events — the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, the arrest of Luigi Mangione, and the panic over drones in New Jersey — reached me through group chats well before they appeared in my X feed. The app’s basic function as a real-time news aggregator feels like it’s breaking down. This, in my opinion, is a good thing. The internet is better off fragmented; humanity wasn’t meant to be thrown into just one or two big rooms together. And Twitter/X was always a uniquely toxic and socially harmful platform. To the extent that Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has broken that toxic network effect by driving liberal users to Bluesky, and worsening the general experience by deprecating external links, he has done the country and the world a great service. That said, I will be staying on X even as it degrades, as I have always promised to do. I have no plans to switch to Bluesky, which is quickly replicating some of Twitter’s more toxic traits on a smaller scale.

But the ironic thing is, suppose they did get their Kekistan. Suppose New Zealand decided to become an all-white country (like it did in 1920), and twenty million alt-right types from around the world moved there (giving it about a quarter the population density of Japan). I think it just wouldn't work. I think people would move there, and find that homogeneity doesn't automatically produce trust and goodwill and social peace. They would find that their population was a highly selected set - it would be made up of people who couldn't get along with the people in their homelands. And they would find that the real thing keeping most of them from getting along with their neighbors wasn't ethnic diversity - it was their own personalities. Eventually, social strife would return. Neighbors would feud over land and resources and power and community status. Gunfights would erupt. Killdozers would be unleashed. The government would lurch from crisis to crisis. Protectionist economic policies would be tried and would fail. The economy would languish. Some people would emigrate, back to the hellscapes of diversity. And those who remained would cling to the theory that "Diversity + Proximity = War". No one likes to give up their cherished social theories, especially if it's the theory that the country was founded on. Just as with Hutus and Tutsis, the inhabitants of Kekistan would "discover" ethnic differences that had been there all along. Suddenly they wouldn't be just white people anymore, but Russian-Kekistanis, Italian-Kekistanis, Hungarian-Kekistanis. Strife and distrust would return, and the new country would undergo decades, if not centuries, of brutal upheaval, fragmentation, clan warfare, unstable military rule, competing aristocracies, atrocities, and poverty. I didn't just make that prediction up, by the way. That's pretty much just the history of Japan.
