A review of The Odyssey (2026) on Letterboxd. I came into The Odyssey (2026) looking for a reason to dislike the film. Don't get me wrong. There's plenty to dislike: nauseatingly quick cutting, pedestrian shot/reverse-shot closeups of superhero actors' unemotive plastic faces, "shoot-and-cry" themes (far worse than the similarly eponymous but more damning Oppenheimer (2023)), and perfunctory action scenes lacking Christopher Nolan's signature high-concept gimmicks. Yet, I walked away enjoying the film. Set your expectations to "superhero movie" and you'll have a good time. The bit where Odysseus turns to the camera and says, roughly: "I am become rude guest, collapser of late bronze age." is actually my favorite part.
