A moment of peace at the Byodo-In Temple, a non-denominational Buddhist temple located on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was dedicated in August 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaiʻi
The main attraction in the Valley of the Temples is a Japanese temple called Byodo-in, which translates to the “Temple of Equality.” A scale replica of a temple in Uji Japan and made entirely without nails, Byodo-in was dedicated in 1968 as a centennial commemoration of the first Japanese immigrants in Hawaiʻi. Famed Kyoto Landscaper Kiichi Toemon Sano planned the Japanese garden complex that houses Byodo-in with extreme attention to detail, from the gravel’s ripple-like design to the small bridges over the fishpond.
Koi in the Byodo-In Temple, located at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. O’ahu’s Byodo-In Temple represents a smaller scale replica of the almost 1,000-year old Byodo-In Temple in Uji, Japan, which is a United Nations World Heritage Site.

Cliff divers at Waimea Bay Beach Park Where: North Shore, Oʻahu Waimea is famous for its 30-foot waves in the winter and is a top place to watch some of the world’s best and bravest surfers. During summer, the water calms considerably and is a great destination for swimming, snorkeling and diving.

Named “Pali” meaning "cliff" in Hawaiian, the Pali Lookout is the site of the Battle of Nuʻuanu, where in 1795 King Kamehameha I won the struggle that finally united Oʻahu under his rule. This fierce battle claimed hundreds of soldiers’ lives, many of which were forced off of the Pali’s sheer cliffs."

Alexander the Great, 100 B.C.E. – 100 C.E. Marble, 3 1/2 x 2 x 1 1/2 in. (8.9 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm). Brooklyn Museum Alexander conquered Egypt in 332 B.C.E. He fostered a connection between Greek and indigenous Egyptian cultures. His successors promoted Egyptian religion, including the making of animal mummies. This posthumous statue was carved from an Egyptian stone in the Greek style that emphasizes motion by the twist of the head and neck.

This literary museum features Junichi Watanabe, a Naoki Prize-winning writer who hailed from Hokkaido. Adjacent to nature-rich Nakajima Park, the building was designed by the architect Tadao Ando. The museum introduces visitors to his literary world through his handwritten manuscripts and various exhibits that trace his life and career. The facility has a library with his entire works and his hobby books, a relaxing café with an air of openness, and a basement concert hall, reflecting Junichi’s concept of making it not a literary museum with a solemn atmosphere, but an innovative and spirited literary museum frequented by visitors.
