❯ I'm in Cornwall ⏺ Common Cornwall birds with a white/pale breast: - Pied wagtail — black and white, long tail, wags it constantly, often on the ground - House martin — white underside, dark blue-black above, forked tail, in flight around buildings - Long-tailed tit — tiny, fluffy, pinkish-white belly, very long tail, usually in flocks - Wheatear — pale breast, black eye-mask, flashes white rump in flight (coastal/moorland) - Stonechat — white belly, orange chest, dark head (gorse/heath) - Dipper — chocolate-brown with bright white breast, bobs on rocks in fast streams Where is it — garden, coast, woodland, river? And any other colours on the head or back? ❯ It has a stubby beak ⏺ Stubby beak rules out wagtails, martins, wheatears (all thin beaks). Most likely candidates: - Long-tailed tit — tiny, round, pinkish-white belly, very long tail, stubby beak, usually in chattering flocks - Coal tit — small, buff-white belly, black cap with white nape patch, white cheeks - Bullfinch (female) — pale buff-pink breast, black cap, stubby black beak - House sparrow — stubby beak, but breast is more grey-buff than white Any cap or markings on the head? Inspector Cayre stood in the doorway and looked at the room for a long time. He looked at the body, the desk, the carafe, the dead fireplace, the bolted door, the latched window, the unbroken snow. Then he looked at the wall. "Who controls the heating?" he asked.

But I can assure you that the glib, self-impressed, preening declaration “mental illness doesn’t do that” has no proximity, morally or medically, to the truth. “Mental illness doesn’t do that”? In this world, with these many people with hideously disordered brains? That’s the little quip you’re going with? Who the fuck do you people think you are?

Text from NYT: The German government racked up budget surpluses from 2014 to 2019. Interest rates were negative, and Germany could have borrowed to invest in public infrastructure, digitization and the transformation to a green economy. Instead, it passed a law enshrining a balanced budget into its Constitution, a move that continues to limit investment.
