So I found my circa 1997 law school typewriter (which is now in the possession of the junk haulers, because just not worth it).

I did the same in law school, partly because my handwriting went to shit under time pressure, and partly because I could type significantly faster than I could write, and if they would let me, why would I say no? I told other students to do the same, and was always shocked so few did.
(The junk haulers at least bill themselves as responsible and eco-friendly, so they try to recycle or donate what they can rather than put it in the dump, FYI. Hope that’s true. Ok, onward.)
