A friend recently told me "Nobody tells you how to grieve someone who isn't dead." I've heard multiple variations of this statement in the past few days. I'm no stranger to grief. My sister committed suicide when I was in my early 20s. That pain never really goes away. It's kind of like the ringing in my ears, it's always there, but it slowly fades into the background until something draws attention to it. Early on those moments are overwhelming, but with time they just become more of a dull ache. I have my regrets over what I could have done to prevent her death. Maybe if I'd said something different she'd still be here. Maybe if l'd supported her more she would have gotten the help she needed. I wasn't there for her in many ways. I didn't believe her. That fear drives a lot of how I act and treat people these days. You never know what someone is going through, and you never know how your words could impact them. My friendship with 2TD has always been complicated. He has been there for me in some truly awful times. He's supported and encouraged me in a way that has helped give me the courage to actually finish and release music. I've seen him deal with people coming after him and Shelter for some truly bullshit reasons. I've also seen him have completely unproportional blow ups on other people in the scene for their negative actions. I've seen him raise up small artists and bring people together. I've also seen him get completely wrapped up in his own ego and exacerbate conflicts. He has been both the best and the worst of the scene.
A pissant is somebody who thinks he's so damn smart, he can never keep his mouth shut. No matter what anybody says, he's got to argue with it. You say you like something, and, by God, he'll tell you why you’re wrong to like it. A pissant does his best to make you feel like a boob all the time. No matter what you say, he knows better.
