Election Address of Lottie Mannion: I am standing for the LGBT+ seat on the Executive Committee and I am asking for your vote. I've worked in manufacturing from age 16: but only joined a unionised workforce at Rolls-Royce in 1996. The benefits were immediate and impactful; defined terms and conditions, employer's contractual obligations, being part of a worker's collective and having a vote on union action. As a grassroots activist I became more active, joining marches against austerity and protecting the NHS, caring for all workers in all sectors of unionised employments. Becoming part of the regional and national LGBT committees naturally followed becoming chair of my workplace branch. Attending my first Leicester Pride some years ago, I was asked why I was wearing a "Save our Steel" t-shirt. I replied, "LGBT workers are in all industries and sectors", hence why I travelled to Grangemouth in 2024 to protest the refinery closure. In standing up for LGBT rights as defined in the Equality Act 2010, I also stand for every one's rights defined with it. With calls to leave ECHR for far-right political ends, it isn't a hard to imagine the ensuring call to abandon the Equality Act, or Health and Safety at Work Act. With the far-right presence inreasing and continued austerity, we must not be persuaded to abandon laws that protect us. All it will do is reward bad bosses. I support Members United candidates who believe the Executive Council must be the voice of UNITE members; holding the Administration to account, ensuring policy si followed, decisions scrutinised, money spent wisely and punching its weight in the workplace and society. If elected, I will help ensure power is in the hands of the members. As a trade unionist, I believe solidarity is our strength and that members united can never be divided.
