Simpson’s Paradox “When combined data tells the opposite story of its subgroups” meaning Simpson’s Paradox happens when a trend appears in separate groups of data but reverses when the groups are combined. It’s usually caused by a hidden variable that influences the results. Example In 1973, UC Berkeley appeared to admit men more than women. But within individual departments, women had higher admission rates. The paradox? Women applied to more competitive programs. When that was factored in, the bias disappeared.
