A few roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 328 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen since late Thursday evening, and many areas saw rain earlier Thursday which meant soils could not absorb much more water. - Flooding is reported at a couple of locations along Friendly Baptist Church Rd near Unionville. The North and South Forks of Crooked Creek are also at an elevated stage and may be causing flooding of nearby low lying areas northwest of Monroe near Hemby Bridge. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. - Despite an earlier drop in river stage, continued runoff has resulted in a recent increase in river stage along the Second Creek watershed. At 120 AM EDT, the stream gauge on Second Creek near US-70 was in action stage, and rapidly approaching minor flood stage, which for this stream gauge occurs at 14 feet. Flooding of adjacent low-lying farmland is anticipated in response, and should continue for much of the overnight. Impacted crossings upstream may include at White Rd, Lyerly Rd, Upright Rd, Graham Rd, Hall Rd, Childers Rd, and Bear Poplar Rd. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... An NC Emergency Management streamgauge on the North Fork Crooked Creek at Idlewild Rd in Hemby Bridge indicates North Fork Crooked Creek has crested, but remains well out of its banks up- and downstream of Hemby Bridge. As a result, NF Crooked Creek continues to flood adjacent low-lying farmland and wooded areas. While inundation may be up to 1-2 feet deep in these locations, no impacts to structures or roadways are expected. However, because flooding continues, a Flood Advisory will remain in effect through 9pm to allow North Fork Crooked Creek to recede below bankfull. - An axis of light to moderate rainfall is currently impacting areas just west of the Advisory across eastern Mecklenburg County. Showers responsible for this rainfall will approach the Crooked Creek watershed over the next hour, but are not expected to strengthen. Therefore, while isolated areas of poor-drainage ponding may develop, this rainfall is not expected to exacerbate ongoing high streamflows.
