Also 1991, the first game was on display in a Target. When my turn to play came up, it was the first boss fight. I had a SNES so no Genesis until I found one at a garage sale in the late 90s. I think the first Sonic game I actually owned was Sonic 2 on Game Gear, the Majesco release for dirt cheap.
Mine was Sonic 2 on the Sega Gamegear. I then got to play it on Genesis at my aunt’s house.
