If Anakin had not taken the final step to the dark side on Mustafar, but had instead basically come to his senses at the last minute and been like "OMG, I was totally wrong. Padme, Obi-Wan, you were right that I was being brainwashed by Palpatine. I'm so sorry, let's get the fuck out of here" and left with them--do you truly think Padme would have forgiven him/taken him back? Like, knowing he had slaughtered the younglings, done all of those terrible things including force-choking her, would she still even want to create a life/future with him? If you'd like you can assume that he would face the legal consequences of what he did. But even if basically no one but the three of them knew, so they could conceivably just have their babies and be a family, do you think she could overcome that knowledge?
