I'm considering this for all my open-source projects. I prefer a detailed issue/discussion. I don't mind if it's AI-generated as long as it's valid and heads in the right direction. High-quality PRs from external contributors are much rarer, whether they're from humans or AI.

How does one become a collaborator in this scenario? Do they need to be invited? Perhaps, after demonstrating good faith in issues/discussions?

And it's not just about quality or wasting time. It's also about security. Pull requests have become a common attack vector across many open-source projects.

I assume most of open source heads this way tbh. Which is a little sad, but understandable at this point. Lots of great contributions to @zed.dev came about through open prs.
