Healthy Minds Consulting Keeping up with Healthy Minds We've been busy since we landed in SoCal and are excited to share some of what's been happening and what's coming up! In this issue we share our nervous system-aligned practices, a new on-demand training series (available now!), and our upcoming summer training series. To kick off your summer reading, we invite you to learn about the importance of the first 60 days in a child's life, and how service dogs can support families of children with disabilities. May 14th, 2026 4:00pm – 5:30pm PT FMF for Teachers! Families Moving Forward (FMF) is a known evidence-based intervention for families raising children with FASD. In order to expand the scope of this program, researchers gathered teacher input to guide the creation of a practical, classroom-focused website. School teams, in collaboration with families and communities, have the ability to significantly reduce this risk through thoughtful and timely interventions. In this session we will discuss the many entry and exacerbation points to the pipeline – both on a systemic and individual level, how FASD impacts these, and employ interactive brainstorming to create a list of actionable solutions. Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) can be an important part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Yet for many students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), their BIPs prove to be ineffective. This session will explore how to create BIPs that utilize brain-based approaches to support students with behavioral challenges. Participants are welcome to bring copies of their student’s current BIP to discuss ways to shift the language to support an understanding of the student’s brain-based disability. This training is designed to equip families with practical tools and strategies to confidently engage in the IEP process—especially when supporting children who are neurodivergent or whose challenges may not fit neatly into standard IEP eligibility categories. Join us in learning how to understand and navigate this process and become a strong advocate for your child’s unique needs. We will explore how to communicate effectively with schools, understand your legal rights, and ensure your child receives the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
