John Swinney has repeatedly talked up winning a majority and has declared he will run to be “Prime Minister of an independent Scotland” in 2031. Meanwhile, Scottish Greens co-leader Gillian Mackay has signalled that she would accept a role as Deputy First Minister in an SNP-led administration. It is despite an MRP poll by More in Common suggesting that many seats are on a “knife edge” ahead of May 7. Commenting, Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said: “This is rank arrogance from the SNP and Scottish Greens. John Swinney and Gillian Mackay are already measuring the size of their ministerial desks and picking out the curtains at Bute House before the election has been decided. “Swinney is taking the result of the Scottish Parliament election for granted by assuming he will win before breaking up the UK and standing to be Prime Minister of an independent Scotland. “This shows just how out of touch Swinney and the SNP are. This is a party that has been in power for too long which has grown arrogant and complacent. “Back in the real world, people across Scotland want a government that restores our NHS, fixes our public services, supports our young people, and keeps our communities safe. “That is what a Scottish Labour government will deliver.
