Exerpt from my upcoming novel: Threads of Amending by Emmy Scanga “Why do you say that?” The orc sat next to Toji, a frown thrown at him as Toji tried to find an emotion that didn’t revolve around outing himself as a Weaver nor dredge up his former fiance. “Who has compassion for an eldritch?” Toji joked, “Careful, I may feed on your soul.” Maleek flashed a lopsided smile and quipped, “Well, many rumors and stories are based on some kernel of truth.” Anxiety licked at the insides of his throat, causing the Weaver to huff out a laugh. “Lucky for you, I find souls aren’t as filling as they used to be,” Toji snickered. “So you are an eldritch?” Maleek teased. Toji’s mouth went dry, partially relishing in this small bit of banter with Maleek. The man was a welcome distraction in all this. And he honestly would not have minded this trip if it were just him and Maleek. At least he wouldn’t be near as frustrated. Toji feigned deep thought as he mused, “I am older than dirt, a danger to be around, and a hermit… it checks out.”

The words ricocheted within Xochel. Never had they met someone so sure of themselves. So unbothered by the idea that Xochel couldn't possibly bring them unspoken and untold harm. Someone that wanted them around constantly. Someone that enjoyed their presence. Someone who didn't treat them like a burden.
