T O    B E A R    A G A I N     I contain the failure of cellular energy pathways, the mitochondria folding like tired horses. I am the moment after poetry — I am brightness draining from the room, I am muscles gone to ruin, I am the amphitheatre emptied of its crowd, the tired horse that will not fold. This is not transgression. This is a simple night of living. I have borne it. I am large enough to bear it again.

Cord in the Room of the Actual   Not the green that mattered but the mattering of green, the way the window ratifies   what was always leaning there. The engine house of the infinite have strung theorems through granite.   The door considered standing and found it supreme. Undercurrent (After Elizabeth Bishop’s Interior with Extension Cord) The cord pulls north across the ceiling, taut, humming. I trace it. Not everything erased should be. Some lines hold the room together, some conduct what we need. The door stands open onto green, untidily alive. Something turning towards the light, persisting, happening, as most things do, just off frame.

Adit (After Sylvia Plath's Tulips) Scoured past the whim-shaft, I surfaced from the carapace I didn't fashion – the gnaw, the want for borrowed gazes, for any benediction gilded as flowers. Something loosened. velundrift from vel- (Proto-Indo-European, ‘will, wish’) + und (wave) + -drift (carried away before settling)   The mourning of a fugacious idea – one that arrived not from the self but from the world's susurrant groanschrift, a velleity so faint it never became thought before noise of the made-world scattered it; compounded by the cruxache this idea might rescue humanity.   ‘They couldn't explain the velundrift – only that something psithurous had passed through them and flown, leaving a ghostweight that felt like catastrophe.’

Accretion There is a listener — a fist of held weather, a gripsong. The quieting. Working buttons of distance loose, unthreading the posture of things. Hushpull. Devoursong. Longgone. Hazard Pay Black gold burns our throat — sand blinds, sky silences — one bunker swing from game over.
