All truths are revealed under the light and might of the sun. As such, all masks break at least once. All shadows will be exposed. All truths come to light, one way or another. It might well take some time, but it will happen. Those who would deceive do not survive any of the Dawnchaser’s tests. Warlock Recruitment Method: Much like many people who desire the blessings of the sun, the Dawnchaser is unabashed in granting his favor. He often tries to bring out people who struggle to be their truest authentic selves. For the Dawnchaser, it’s a journey of self-discovery. Supported Pacts: Celesital, Archfey, Undying Relationship: The Dawnchaser has a rather paternal relationship with most of their warlocks. That’s not to say there are exceptions to this rule, but they do take on a rather nurturing role. Symbolism: The sun, lens, eyes
The Duskcaller He/Them Type: God Eligibility: Open to Warlocks The Duskcaller is the god of the moon, secrets, and facades. They are who compels one to lie, to keep secrets, to hide from the light of the sun. The dark side of the moon protects one from their true self. It is an omen that on nights of the Full Moon, the Duskcaller reveals his true face and a deep secret is revealed. As such, the Full Moon also influences other people to act in a way truer to their nature. Otherwise, the Duskcaller’s lips are sealed, and so are many who deign to wear masks in their everyday life. Warlock Recruitment Method: The Duskcaller offers pacts to those who approach them for them, but often they will be required to offer a deep, deep secret in return. It must be a secret shared between god and disciple, that no other can be privy to. Supported Pacts: Archfey, Celestial, The Coven Relationship: Typically, the Duskcaller is cordial and teasing and playful with their warlocks, but often does not let them in further than that. The warlock will often get toyed with and tested, but the Duskcaller reveals naught about themself. Symbolism: The moon, veils, shrouds, mist, a finger in front of closed lips, masks.
The Abstract She/Any Type: God? Eligibility: Looking occasionally, and randomly. The Abstract is the god of creativity, the subconscious, emotions, and abstract thought. They are hard to fathom and most don’t really even think they exist. There is no organized religion for them, and scholars only know they exist due to the existence of Hypnogogia, the realm between sleep and dream, as well as people noting an interloper in ancient texts, when people used to dream. Warlock Recruitment Method: When something pique’s the Abstract’s interest, it is fleeting, and bright. Usually, they offer their blessings to people that they like and then turn their back and forget about it, oops. Supported Pacts: Celestial, Great Old One, Fathomless, Lantern, Astral Griffon Relationship: The Abstract rarely talks to people in a way that they can understand. Primarily, they communicate through imagery, vibes, or (more legibly) in their dreams. Symbolism: Prism, dream clouds, paint splatter, phosphenes
The Enlightened Xe/They pronouns Type: God Eligibility: Could be convinced, but not actively looking The Enlightened is the God of Logic, decision-making, critical thought, and knowledge. Xe has consigned themselves to a life of endless study of the world, consuming knowledge and enshrining it all in their Labyrinthine Archive. Warlock Recruitment Method: More often than not, many people cannot acquire a contract with the Enlightened. To have the Enlightened glance at someone is to recognize someone’s fitness to ascend. That being said, if a fairly determined scholar has a heretofore unheard of dissertation, the Enlightened may choose to personally sponsor their research out of interest. supported Pacts: Celestial, Great Old One Relationship: The Enlightened has a very tense relationship with their warlocks, given that they are entirely, purely a business relationship. Occasionally, the warlock may offer their eyes to the Enlightened. Symbolism: Scrolls, musical scores, magical tags, books, quills, writing utensils, spell scrolls.

They are tricksy, whimsical, and marches to the beat of their own drum, always seeking freedom and fun in equal spades. However, the Lord of Brambles is also the god of lies and trickery, and spends a lot of time among mortals. As such, they know well how to interact with and mess with them. Warlock Recruitment Method: More often than not, the Lord of Brambles will recruit people by tricking them into a Warlock pact, such as tricking them into owing them something. Supported Pacts: Archfey, Celestial, Great Old One, Exalted Assembly of the Feline Court, Great Fool, Horned King, Predator, Mother of Sorrows Relationship: The Lord of Brambles often enjoys an antagonistic relationship with their warlocks, playing tricks on them, manipulating them, flirting with them. Anything they can do to get under their warlock’s skin, they’ll do, because they don’t really care about irritating them. Symbolism: Black roses with golden tips, pomegranates, golden leaves, bramble vines, fennec foxes.

Ok, that narrows it down. With regards to my own process, I tend to go like this: 1. Figure out the main moral quandary i want the character to tackle and struggle with (I usually look inward for quandaries I might struggle with) and waht role in the greater narrative to fulfill. 2. Draft out the character's story & their general personality (doesn't have to be big, just a few bullet points for background) 3. Select motifs based on symbolism from that story (i.e. if the character tends to blindly follow others to their own detriment you may want to consider moth aesthetics or sheep aesthetics). 4. Build all of the characters proportions, clothes, etc. around those motifs, including secrets they might have (for example: I might have this character who is easily led wear a big woolen coat iwth a bright red shirt underneath to show that this person has been hurt before, or has something bubbling under the surface). 5. From there you can kinda refine and build but yeah sorry i tried to keep it concise.
